Icelandic horses

Cathy est passionnée par les poneys depuis toute petite. A 7 ans elle fait un stage dans son pays natal, les Pays-Bas, dans un élevage d’Islandais. Elle y rencontre Funi, un hongre islandais âgé de 7 ans comme elle,avec un sacré caractère (comme elle aussi !). Ils deviennent inséparables et Funi partage la vie de Cathy pendant plus de 20 ans. C’est d’ailleurs pour assurer une retraite heureuse à Funi qu’en 1997, Cathy emménage avec sa famille dans une ancienne ferme où elle crée le Poney Club du Ponchau. En 2001 un autre Islandais rentre dans sa vie, Fjarki, un hongre de 2 ans. A ce moment naît l’idée d’un petit élevage d’islandais et 4 autres juments viennent rejoindre le troupeau du Ponchau : Dimma, Stjarna, Fjola et Sina. Dimma et Stjarna auront chacune un magnifique poulain : Furdoa et Kjalar. Fjola travaille au Poney Club et Sina devient la nouvelle complice de Cathy. En 2004 suite à la longue maladie et le décès de son père, Cathy doit arrêter l’élevage et Dimma, Stjarna et Furdoa sont vendues. Kjalar quitte cette vie malheureusement très jeune. Fjarki, Fjola et Sina restent au Poney Club du Ponchau. En 2009, Cathy retrouve une amie, Dominique, qui vient rejoindre le Ponchau avec sa jument islandaise Ofelia pour quelque temps. Malheureusement Fjola décède en 2010 et début 2011 Cathy perd sa jument Sina avec qui elle avait repris goût à l’équitation, découvert l’équitation islandaise et les joies du TREC. Fjarki découvre le TREC avec Lori, la fille cadette de Cathy, et ce nouveau couple s’entend à merveille. Depuis l’été 2011 Lukka, une jeune jument islandaise est venue rendre le sourire à Cathy. Kelly, sa fille ainée, s’occupe pour l’instant de son éducation et de son débourrage.

Cathy is van kleins af aan al zot op pony’s. Op 7 jarige leeftijd gaat ze op ponykamp in haar geboorteland, Nederland, bij een stoeterij van Ijslandse paarden. Daar ontmoet ze Funi, een ruin van 7 jaar oud zoals zij, met een sterk karakter ( ook zoals zij !).  Funi en Cathy zijn onafscheidelijk tijdens meer dan 20 jaar. Om Funi een waardig pensioen te kunnen geven, gaat Cathy met haar familie vanaf 1997 in een oude boerderij wonen, waar ze Ponchau’s Ponyclub opricht. In 2001 komt er een andere Ijslander bij, Fjarki een ruin van toen 2 jaar. Van dat ogenblik begint ze met een kleine Ijslandse paarden stoeterij en komen er nog  4 ijslandse merries bij. : Dimma, Stjarna, Fjola en Sina.  Dimma en Stjarna krijgen allebij een prachtig veulen, Furdoa en Kjalar. Fjola werkt in de Pony club en Sina wordt beste maatjes met Cathy. In 2004 na de lange ziekte en dood van haar vader moet Cathy met het fokken stoppen en worden Dimma, Stjarna en Furdoa verkocht. Kjalar zal helaas heel jong sterven. Fjarki, Fjola en Sina blijven in Ponchau’s Ponyclub. In 2009 ziet Cathy een vriendin terug, Dominique, zij gaat samen met haar Ijslandse merrie Ofelia een tijdje bij de Ponchau blijven.  Fjola streft jammer genoeg in 2010 en begin 2011 verliest Cathy haar merrie Sina, waarmee ze de smaak van het (ijslands) paardrijden terug gevonden had en aan TREC was begonnen.
Fjarki gaat ook aan TREC beginnen samen met Lori, de jongste dochter van Cathy. In de zomer 2011 smelt het hart van Cathy voor een jonge ijslandse merrie, Lukka. Kelly, haar oudste dochter zorgt vanaf dat ogenblik voor haar opvoeding en gaat haar inrijden.

Cathy has had a passion for ponies since her early childhood. When she was 7 she attended a pony training course in her native country, The Netherlands, in an Icelandic-horse breeding farm. There, she met Funi, a seven-year-old gelding with a tough character (just as hers !). They became inseparable and funi shared Cathy’s life for more than 20 years. In order to allow Funi to retire, Cathy moved into an old farm with her family where she created the Poney Club du Ponchau. In 2001, another Icelandic two-year-old gelding, Fjarki, arrived. At that moment, another idea arose out of Cathy’s head: a small breeding farm of Icelandic horses. Four other mares arrived in the herd of the Poney Club du Ponchau: Dimma, Stjarna, Fjola and Sina. Dimma and Stjarna both had a wonderful foal: Furdoa and Kjalar. Fjola was working at the Poney Club and Sina became the new partner of Cathy. In 2004, after a long sickness, Cathy’s father died. Cathy had to stop the breeding and Dimma, Stjarna and Furdoa were sold. Kjalar died very young. Fjarki, Fjola and Sina remained at the Poney Club du Ponchau. In 2009, Cathy met again an old friend of hers, Dominique, who joined the Ponchau with her Icelandic mare Ofelia for some time. Unfortunately Fjola died in 2010and early in 2011 Cathy lost her mare Sina with which she had got to like riding again, had discovered Icelandic riding and the joys of TREK. Fjarki discovered TREK with Lori, Cathy’s younger daughter, and today that new couple gets along so well with each other. Since the summer of 2011, Lukka, a young Icelandic mare has joined the farm and brought back a smile on Cathy’s face. Today Kelly, her oldest daughter, takes care of her education and her decoring.
